Universe : Big Bang to Stone Age

 Introduction

In this post, you will learn about what is the Universe, Old Beliefs about the Universe, Big Bang Theory, Formation of stars and galaxies, Formation of the Solar System, Formation of Earth's magnetic field, Formation of weather and rain, Origin of life in the oceans, Evolution of life on the Earth, Evolution of Modern Animals ,Humans and Stone Age. The universe started with the Big Bang about 13.8 billion years ago. With the passage of time, stars, galaxies, and our solar system formed. Earth developed a magnetic field, and rain filled the ocean where life began. Slowly living things evolved, leading to modern animals and humans. The stone age was the first step toward civilization.

1. What is the universe?

The universe is everything around us- all the stars, planets, and everything in space.

The universe is infinite. No one knows how vast it is. It is place where everything exists from tiny particle to massive galaxies. The universe contains approximately 200 billion galaxies and our galaxy is called the Milky Way. The universe is about 93 billion light years wide and has an elliptical shape.

The universe is of two types:

1. Visible Universe
2. Invisible Universe

2. Old beliefs of the universe

1.) Pythagoras (570 BCE Greece)

  • Pythagoras said the Earth is round and moves around a centre.

2.) Aryabhat(476 CE)

  • Aryabhat was an Indian scientist. He said the earth moves around the sun and not the other way around. He also explained that the moon and planets shine because of the Sun.

3.) Ptolemy (140CE)

  • He said the Earth is centre of the universe (which was a later proven wrong)

4.) Copernicus (1543 CE)

  • He said that the sun is the centre and planets moves around it.

5.) Galileo Galilei (1564-1642 CE)

  • He made a telescope and proved that the Earth moves around the Sun

6.) Isaac Newton (1642-1727 CE)

  • He discovered gravity, which keeps planets moving around the Sun.

7.) Edwin Hubble (1889-1953 CE)

  • He found out that the universe is expending.

8.) George Lemaitre (1894-1966 CE)

  • He gave the Big Bang Theory which explains how the universe is started.

3. Big Bang Theory : The Origin of the Universe

The Big Bang Theory explains the creation of the universe.

13.8 billion year ago, all matter was concentrated in an infinity dense, hot, singularity where space and time did not exist. Suddenly, due to an unknown reason, this is singularity exploded, creating the universe and starting it is expansion, which continues even today.

  • Within fraction of a second, rapid expansion occurred.
  • Within 3 minutes , the first atom formed.
  • Within 300,000 years, the temperature dropped to 4200 degree C and the universe become transparent.

4. Formation of stars and galaxies

  • The process of star formation is called nuclear fusion.
  • 5 billion years ago, stars started forming.
  • Due to gravitational differences, matter accumulated, leading to the formation of galaxies.
  • A galaxy is a huge collection of stars, spanning 80,000 to 150,000 light -years across.

5. How the solar system was formed?

(Formation of the solar system)

  • The Solar system consists of the sun, planets, moons, asteroids, and comets.
  • 4.5 billion years ago, a collapsing nebula formed the Sun and planets.
  • Earth was initially a hot, molten sphere, rotating so fast that one day last day only 6 hours.

Formation of the moon

  • 4.5 billion years ago, a Mars sized asteroid collided with Earth.
  • The ejected material formed the moon.

6. Earth's Magnetic Field how it formed and why it matters?

(Formation of Earth magnetic field)

  • As Earth stabilized, a heavy metals like iron and nickel sank to the core, generating Earth's magnetic field, which protect us from harmful solar radiation

7. The Formation of Weather and rain on Earth

  • Asteroid collisions titled Earth, creating seasons.
  • Intense volcanic activity released steam into the atmosphere, causing millions of years of rainfall, cooling Earth and forming lakes, rivers and oceans.

8. Origin of Life  in the Oceans: The Beginning of Evolution

  • 3.8 billion years ago, life begin as micro organism in the ocean.
  • These microbes performed photosynthesis, producing oxygen, allowing complex life form to evolve.

9. Evolution of Life on Earth: From Microbes to Multicellular organisms

  • First jelly fish like creature appeared.
  • Sharks and other large Marine creatures evolved.
  • Dinosaurs appeared 220 million years ago and dominating Earth.
  • Birds and mammals evolved 150 million years ago.
  • Flowering plants emerged 130 million years ago

10. The Rise of Modern Animals after the Dinosaur Extinction

(Evolution of Modern Animals)

  • Crocodiles and turtles appeared 110 million years ago.
  • Bees evolved 100 million years ago, enhancing pollination.
  • Snakes and ants evolved 80 million years ago.
  • Whales, bats, and butterflies evolved 40 million years ago.
  • Cats, deer, giraffes, and bears evolved 10 million years ago.
  • Great Apes (ancestors of humans) evolved 14 million years ago.

11. Human Evolution: From Early Ancestors to Homo sapience

(Evolution of Humans)

  • 5 million years ago zebras elephants dogs and carnivores evolved.
  • 4.4 million years ago, early humans emerged.
  • 3.9 million years ago early human and sisters appeared in Africa.
  • 2.4 million years ago, Homo hablis, the first tool making human, evolved, marking the Stone Age.

12. The stone Age: The Dawn of Human Civilization

During the Stone Age early human had two main goals
1. Survival
2. Finding food

To protect themselves and hunt for food, they started using stone tools.

13. Conclusion

The universe begin 13.8 billion years ago with the Big Bang, leading to galaxies, stars, and Earth. Life evolved, and around 2.5 million years ago, early human emerged, developing tools and fire. The Stone Age saw the rise of societies, agriculture, and the foundation of Civilization.

15. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. What is the Big Bang Theory?

The Big Bang Theory says that the universe began as an extremely hot, dene point around 13.8 billion years ago and has been expanding ever since. It marks the origin of space, time, and all matter in the universe.

2. What were the first elements formed after the big bang?

After the Big Bang, the first elements formed were hydrogen and  helium, with trace amounts of lithium and beryllium. Heavier elements formed later in stars through nuclear fusion.

3. How did the earth origin?

The earth formed about 4.6 billion years ago from a big cloud of gas and dust in space called the solar nebula, which collapsed under gravity. As particles collided and stuck together, they gradually built up into a molten planet that later cooled to become the Earth we know today.

4. What was the first life on earth?

The first life on earth was simple, tiny organisms called microbes or single celled bacteria. They appeared about 3.5 to 4 billion years ago and lived in the oceans.

5. What is the Stone Age?

The stone age is the very first period of human history when people used stone tools. It started around 2.5 million years ago and ended when human began using metal tools, around 3000 BCE.
